Gina's story

We are a young couple with farming experience who both continue to work full-time while we establish our reputation at a local farmers market in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I am Gina, a former social worker, whose real passion is draft animal power for farm work. I am also in charge of the vegetable garden and record-keeping. My husband is Silvano, a general contractor who specializes in home rehab and interior installations. He is in charge of building what we need, maintaining our strawberry field, and doing animal chores (feeding them, moving them to new pastures, etc).

Between us, we arrived at this farming endeavor with about 11 years of agricultural experience already behind us. Silvano grew up around farm animals; his family raised donkeys, goats, and corn in Puebla, Mexico. Gina apprenticed on organic farms in her twenties, including the extraordinary Tillers International near Kalamazoo Michigan.

We completed our first Kiva loan in 2024 to obtain the equipment we needed to efficiently process our meat chickens. It was truly heartening to see the support we garnered from our own community and from complete strangers. We did not let that support go to waste! We used the equipment well that year, and doubled our meat chicken production in 2025. Now we are back to expand our business even more.
