Fifty-three-year-old Glendy, a mother of seven children, shares that two of her children died in an accident two years ago. She has five grown, married children. and is a grandmother of twelve. As an adult, Glendy realized the importance of a good education, so four of her children finished the ninth grade and one graduated from high school. Glendy only attended school for six years because she didn’t like to study.

Twenty years ago Glendy opened her business selling bed linens, personal care products and cosmetics, and chicken by the pound. With her income, combined with that of her husband, who is a day laborer, she was able to cover household and educational expenses of the children.

Ten years ago, she decided to only sell personal care products and cosmetics. She sells from her home and on the street in her community in the department/state of San Marcos. Her goal is to have her own storefront.

Glendy joined six other women and formed the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Fe y Esperanza La Blanca”. As president, she calls the meetings to order and the ladies make loan payments. They participate in an interactive educational training session, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program. They learn to manage their businesses that include the sales of regional dishes, casual clothing and bakeries. They also learn about planning, budgeting, and customer service Other topics are about health, hygiene, nutrition, women’s issues, family matters, and recycling.
