We did it!

For a second year in a row, Kiva had a record-breaking International Women’s Day! This was the biggest day of lending in Kiva's history, beating our second largest day by 23%! In just one week, more than seven thousand lenders and supporters doubled our goal in loans to women, with $3.5 million in loans on March 8th alone. As a result, the Kiva community fully funded 7,486 female loans!

You helped women like Haydee, in Nicaragua, purchase a solar energy system to use in her home. Now, her family can read, recharge and help the environment without having to rely on flashlights and candles.

For J.T. in Chicago, IL, your support helped expand her business, VirtualPro. With her Kiva loan, J.T. will be able to strengthen her marketing and recruitment team to create more sustainable jobs throughout the country.

In Sierra Leone, Miriama’s group was able to acquire rice from local farmers to sell at each of their trading stores. This increases resource availability, food security and supports female employment in a nation recovering from conflict.

With a single loan, women can change the trajectory of their lives, impact their community and improve their entire nation. When we invest in women, we invest in the health and wellbeing of children, in poverty reduction and in a stable nation. This week, thousands of women are a step closer to the futures they deserve.

With their help, we were able to match $1.1 million in loans on International Women’s Day, enabling women to achieve their goals, increase opportunity and build better lives.
