Picture a reality without electricity, where simple tasks become repeated challenges. For many Africans, this is a daily struggle. With power outages lasting up to 20 hours each day hardworking citizens navigate the demands of work, business, and family life where reliable electricity is a scarce commodity. This is the reality of over 600 million people across the African continent.

MPower Ventures is a social enterprise that imports, brands, and distributes household and small business solar products such as solar generators, solar fans and solar TVs in Sub-Saharan Africa. Working with distributors, NGOs, Corporations and financing partners they provide solar products and financing in Zambia, Togo, Cameroon, Ghana, and Namibia. MPower’s team of nearly 60 has distributed over 45,000 solar products, enabling 2,824 MWh of clean power, and reducing ~15,000 tons of CO2e.

MPower is a market leader helping meet Africa’s growing energy demand and promoting climate resilience and adaptability on a continent where half of the world’s fastest growing economies are.

Kiva's loan will enable access to solar products for more than 2,000 Cameroonian and Togolese households and small businesses. This is MPower’s second loan through the Kiva Social Enterprise program. View their previous loan here.
